Origyns Afrika is a family friendly festival that presents the culture and history of the great African empire of Songhai, Ghana, and Mali. This is very interactive with costumed characters, activities, and fun. We encourage youth and families to join in on the theatrical and character development portions of the festival.
This year Origyns Afrika will be held at 8339 Old York Road on Aug 9, 2026.
There will be three shows: 10 AM, 2:30 PM, and 4:30 PM.
Child tickets are $15 and adult tickets are $30 for a single 2 hour show. Included with your ticket are the entry fee, one ticket for an arts and craft experience, one ticket for a small snack, drumming lessons, warrior training, ancestral honoring, and more!
There are several experiences to add on this year: Headwrapping lessons, African food tasting, individual and family photos with the king, additional arts and crafts tickets, and purchases from the marketplace.
We always love to see people dressed in African inspired outfits!
For our first year , expect a free small snack pack. There will be marketplace vendors who may have sweet treats for sale. As we grow, expect culturally-inspired foods.
Origyns Afrika is easy to get to. Buses that run to 8339 Old York Road (the Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park, PA) include SEPTA Routes 55 and 70.
SEPTA Bus 55: Stops right at Old York Rd & Township Line Rd, which is the exact corner of the property.
SEPTA Bus 70: Stops near Fern Rock Transportation Center, which is a major nearby connecting hub.
Come with an open mind! Focus on the atmosphere, food, and activities you enjoy most.
Tip: Bring extra funds for add on experiences and for food and vendors. This will help you make the most of your cultural journey.
